R.J. Multari, assistant dean for undergraduate education at the School of Architecture and Planning, has been recognized by Erie Community College for his work in aligning the college’s architecture technology program with the School of Architecture and Planning’s undergraduate program.

He will receive a “Partners in Education Award” on May 1, 2015, at ECC’s North Campus.

Over the past several years, Multari has advised ECC administration, faculty, and local architects on curricular adjustments to the college’s two-year program so that graduates may be eligible for advanced standing in UB’s four-year undergraduate program. Now students who complete the ECC program and meet the School of Architecture and Planning’s design portfolio requirements will be placed in sophomore studio as opposed to freshman studio.

According to ECC President Jack Quinn, Multari’s work has helped to strengthen the college and increase advanced educational opportunities for its students: “Your selection should not only stand as a testament to your work with ECC’s Architecture Technology Program, its curriculum and its challenges but also to your professional work with [the University at Buffalo’s] School of Architecture and Planning.”

Multari is expanding this outreach to other community colleges in the region with architecture technology or drafting programs, including SUNY Hudson Valley Community College and Harrisburg Area (PA) Community College.  In addition, Multari has been invited to serve on the Hudson Valley Community College architecture technology program assessment team during summer 2015.

As assistant dean, Multari directs undergraduate academic services for both the architecture and environmental design programs at UB. He began his career with the school in 2001 and holds a master’s degree in educational administration and a master’s degree in social science with an urban studies specialization from UB. He is currently completing his dissertation for a PhD in educational leadership at UB. Multari also serves as an adjunct faculty member of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning.
