The real estate industry is one of the world’s most dynamic and influential industries, and professionals create places where people live, work, and play, develop local economies, and shape cities and the built environment.
As the only real estate degree in the SUNY system, the Master of Science in Real Estate Development (MSRED) prepares students for careers in real estate development and investment, or to advance in their careers if they already are employed in real estate.
Our courses feature instruction from experienced developers and real estate professionals who are thought leaders, experts, and dealmakers. Many courses engage the resurgent City of Buffalo, a vibrant laboratory for applied study in proximity to global financial and employment centers in New York, Boston and Toronto.

A specialized master’s degree is a great way to launch or advance a career in real estate development and investment. With a total cost of study (in-state tuition and fees) of approximately $25,000, UB offers an unmatched, affordable graduate education with an outstanding ROI. Graduates who are new to the field earn starting salaries that are more than 2-3 times their total tuition cost, in addition to bonuses. Advancing professionals accelerate their careers with promotions, new job and investment opportunities, and key increases in compensation. That’s a better ROI than at other graduate real estate programs.

Our MSRED program is intentionally small (admitting 15-20 students each year), allowing students to build close relationships with industry executives through faculty networks, mentorships, field trips, guest speakers, social events, and internships. The program receives guidance from an Advisory Committee of seasoned real estate executives, and is led by a faculty of thought leaders and top real estate professionals.
The UB Real Estate Development Program has diverse and deep relationships, and works closely with partners in every sector of the real estate industry and its allied professions. This collaboration leads to professional development opportunities for students, and generates thought leadership to advance innovations in real estate, architecture, and urban planning.
We have strong relationships with many UB alumni across the United States, many of whom are doing transformational work as seasoned executives or trailblazing professionals in real estate industry leadership positions. Serving as mentors, advisors, and employers, these alumni are located in major cities like Boston, Chicago, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Washington, DC, as well as in upstate cities like Buffalo and Rochester.
By creating synergies between the university and industry, we provide a service to professionals, and prepare the real estate leaders of tomorrow.
Graduates of the School of Architecture and Planning carry the qualities of next-generation leaders: grit, courage, enterprise, and collaboration. Our graduates are adept problem-solvers and nimble at working across disciplines, communities and the complex built and social landscape. It's why UB graduates are leading the profession's most emergent areas of practice.
