Unduk-Naru Ferry Terminal

At night, the steps in the hill glow, lighting the path below. The hill is a natural contrast to the urban cityscape.

Night rendering Unduk-Naru

This ferry terminal concept by Jin Young Song focuses on fundamentally dynamic human qualities such as waiting, meeting, playing, and departing.

Unduk-Naru eschews the popular trend towards iconic structures by letting formal architecture roll right over its organic hill shape, and encouraging the variations in human behavior to become the façade which covers the functional requirements of the terminal. Residents will be invited to engage with the new space by purchasing engraved, pre-selected materials such as landscape planter boxes and walkable solar panels. This special part-to-whole relationship is inspired by the traditional Korean Jogakbo, a utilitarian cloth sewn together from reused fabric remnants.
