Stephanie Cramer.

Steph Cramer studied Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (BArch 2006) and received the post-professional degree Design + Make from the Architectural Association, London (MArch, 2014).

Her research focuses on the relationship between Drawing and Making, expansion of the role of the Architect in construction, and a deep interest in self-build architectural experiments.

Her early research includes international sustainable design practices in Italy, the unique urban challenges of ancient Moroccan cities, and contemporary nomadic culture in Ireland.  She spent 7 years working for the internationally acclaimed architects, Behnisch Architekten in both their Stuttgart Germany and Los Angeles offices as project architect on many award winning projects and competitions.

Following her work with Behnisch, she has completed a series of experiments exploring alternative design methodologies through the act of making.  Her current research focuses on the effective use of improvisation within a self-build process, the reciprocal feedback loop between designer and object, and a close examination into the role of the drawing as an effective design tool.

She has taught Design and Construction at Parsons the New School for Design within their Design Workshop full scale build graduate studio, and her professional and academic work has won several awards for design, social responsibility and constructability.
