A group of 19 architecture and planning students boosted their professional network last month with a visit to four major firms in New York City: AECOM, Kohn Pedersen Fox, Gensler and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). The students met with leadership at each firm, toured firm offices and learned about internship opportunities. The students also took part in Career Conversations, an annual networking event with alumni held at the Union League in mid-town Manhattan.

The visits were part of UB's "Road Trip New York City," a five-day series of corporate site visits, informal coffee chats and opportunities to establish professional contacts that have led to jobs for numerous UB graduates.

“Trips like this are so valuable to our students,” says Carrie Johnson of UB's Office of Career Services. “The students get an opportunity to visit professional environments, learn more about the culture and workstyle of these places, and learn what it takes to land an internship or job. It’s a very competitive market and experiences like this give our students a leg up in their career planning.”
