The School of Architecture and Planning is a vibrant hub of new research in architecture and planning characterized by a culture of experimentation and innovation. Our state-of-the-art research and fabrication facilities and location in Buffalo, our design laboratory and site of investigation, offer ideal settings to study and test your ideas. 

Our research enterprise is enriched by on-the-ground student participation, the engagement of our professions and diverse partnerships with industry, government and community organizations. From design research that evolves through built works in the community to nationally sponsored research through our five research centers, programs balance focused inquiry with in depth methodological training and robust intellectual dialogue across the disciplines. Indeed, situated within the University at Buffalo, SUNY’s largest and most comprehensive research university, the School of Architecture and Planning actively collaborates with disciplines as diverse as public health, law, engineering and visual studies.
