This exhibition introduces architect Jordan Geiger's design research on the spaces of "Very Large Organizations (VLOs)." Today, human-computer interactions in the built environment are marked by the rapid development of VLOs: new formations of global financial, legal, and communications networks, abrupt social and environmental events, and more. VLOs operate on multiple scales from the nano to the human to the extra-planetary. They are present in the designs of handheld devices, satellite networks, and the built landscapes we inhabit in between. The planning and implementation for VLOs command logistics, capital, and an order of population magnitude that must accommodate volatile shifts with spatial and computational stability. Adaptability is at the crux of dealing with diverse users or publics and unprecedented technical, cultural, social, and ecological challenges; and it is where control can give way to engagement and participation.

The show is an overview of several VLOs and how they present a potent new field for design. Work is documented graphically and presented on flags as sovereign entities, a "Hall of VLOs."

The exhibit is free and open to the public between 1 pm and 6 pm on weekdays through Nov. 26, as well as during accompanying public events.
