5:30 pm, Front Yard at the Burchfield Penney Art Center

1300 Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo

A community street party celebrating the unveiling of "The Front Yard," a project conceived, designed and assembled with the guidance of architecture faculty member Brad Wales and students of the 2012-13 Small Built Works studio. The festivities include a live musical performance by Tomas Henrique, and then at sunset (approximately 6:28 pm), the trio of projection towers turns on forever. Captivating audio and image works by a dynamic array of artists will be presented throughout the night and continue beyond.

The concept for The Front Yard is the brainchild of clinical assistant professor of architecture Brad Wales and Buffalo State staff member/media artist Brian Milbrand, who imagined transforming the exterior of the Burchfield Penney into a backdrop for audio and image, created and presented based on a variety of cues drawn from changes in the weather. Working with a wide range of collaborators, including SUNY Buffalo State, Rigidized Metals Corporation and LP Ciminelli Construction, Wales and students from the Small Built Works studio brought the design concept to fruition over the course of the 2012-13 academic year.
