Jean La Marche holds a Doctorate in Architecture from the University of Michigan and was Acting Chair (2002-03).

He is the author of The Familiar and the Unfamiliar in Twentieth-Century Architecture and has published chapters in books (Ordering Space: Types in Architecture and Design, and Surrealism and Architecture), articles in journals such Environment and Planning B, working paper monographs through the University of California-Berkeley Center for Environmental Design Research, and several other journal and encyclopedia articles. He is on the editorial board of the Journal of Architectural Engineering Technology and a peer reviewer for the Journal of Architectural Education, and Routlege and University of Illinois Presses. He has lectured and participated in workshops, seminars, and juries at the International Design Olympiad; Architektskolen in Aarhus, Denmark; the Akademie der Künste in Berlin; and several universities in North America. 

Dr. La Marche has also received several awards for his design work, including the 2012 Gold Award from the Chicago Home Builder’s Association and the Best Universal Designed Home from the National Association for Home Builders for a concept house he helped design. His work has been exhibited widely, including the Smithsonian National Building Museum.
