Irene Ayad, who received her Ph.D. from Cornell University, is an architectural historian and urbanist with particular interest in 20th century western and non-western architecture as well as in community development and historic preservation. 

She is currently completing a manuscript on Louis Kahn’s social housing and community projects. Her essay “Louis I. Kahn and Space Frames,” focuses on Kahn’s triangulated structures and their impact on his mature work. The essay is published in Beyond the Cube: The Architecture of Space Frames and Polyhedra. The book received and “honorable mention” by the AIA. In addition she has published several critical reviews of manuscripts on Kahn’s work. 

During her tenure with Preservation Buffalo (now Preservation Buffalo Niagara) she was instrumental in establishing a Docent Program. 

Before coming to Buffalo, she taught at the School of Architecture, Knoxville and at NJIT
